Marta Cordell here, to share my best-kept secrets with you for better digestion!
But why am I talking about having better digestion in the first place?
Great question!
We all know that suffering from digestive problems such as gas, bloating, reflux, stomach cramps, diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease can seriously hinder our daily functioning and make us miserable.
Your gastrointestinal tract (GI) tract acts as your body’s food processor and if it’s blocked, overloaded, polluted with toxins such as food additives, pesticides and preservatives, or otherwise irritated, it is going to let you know how it feels by having one of the reactions listed above.
Your GI tract first breaks down your food by the mechanical process of chewing and then by a multitude of complex chemical processes that extracts nutrients to feed your system and expel toxins.
So what is my first best-kept secret to better digestion?
CHEWING!
The best way to ensure that we are helping make it easy for our bodies to digest our food is to chew A LOT so that our food mixes with enzymes secreted with our saliva,
and can be easily digested and better absorbed for optimal nutrition.
Believe it or not chewing is one of the most important aids to our digestion and it’s also one we often take for granted so much so that
we sometimes practically swallow our food whole, forgetting to grind our teeth altogether!
Learning how to chew your food properly (up to 30 times per bite) will help you extract the maximum nutrients from your food, and also signals the digestive tract further down that food is coming, which gets your digestive juices flowing!
It can also help keep you from overeating. How?
Because if you eat healthy food packed with nutrients that you chew properly with each bite, you will be able to recognize once you feel full and you will, therefore, eat less!
What else ya got?
If you find that even with all that chewing, your digestion is not up to snuff, try taking a digestive enzyme.
Although our bodies are designed to produce enzymes to digest our foods, sometimes they need a little help.
Be sure your enzyme supplement contains enzymes to break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates (protease, lipase and amylase), and many will contain other helpful ingredients as well, like papain, ginger or bromelain.
Another helpful ingredient your enzyme supplement may contain, or that you may wish to add if it doesn’t is HCL.
This is especially useful if you experience indigestion. We often think that indigestion is due to having too much acid in our stomachs, which leads us to reach for antacids, or worse, acid blockers.
In reality, indigestion is most often due to not enough stomach acid, making it harder to digest heavy meals!
This is where HCL can really help, as it is the main component of stomach acid, and can help replace what we are lacking. Speaking of stomach acid, if you’re regularly not producing enough, you may just be dehydrated!
If you’re not drinking enough water, (and many of us aren’t), start a practice of drinking 8 ounces a half hour to an hour before meals.
This will give the body time to start producing its own acid, and your digestion will thank you!
Finally, examine what you’re eating. I know, not the most fun of these tips, but maybe that chili dog wasn’t the best choice…
I know, I know, the commercials tell you that you can eat whatever you want, and this one little pill will keep you from having to pay the consequences, but don’t you believe it!
Choosing healthier options, like fruits and veggies, lean meats and good fats not only are easier on the digestive tract, they help feed your microbiome,
which is the helpful gut microbes that assist in breaking down our foods and keeping everything moving along nicely.
Those little pills block the digestion’s normal functioning, and keep us from digesting our food properly, which means that we’re not getting all the nutritional value from the foods we eat.
This leads to things like weird cravings, overeating, and never really feeling satisfied, because the body is just begging for more nutrients!
Anything else?
I’m so glad you asked! In case you weren’t aware, the gut and the brain are actually two parts of the same system, and are very connected – what affects the brain affects the gut, and vice-versa!
That means that improving brain function can also improve gut function. Our Brain Light Prodevice increases blood flow by creating new blood vessels, as well as new neurons and synapses, and improves the brain’s functionality.
We very often see improvement in the digestive system as well when someone begins using the Brain Light Pro to improve the brain!
I still need help! What do I do now?
Tips like these can be helpful, but digestion is a complex array of different chemical and organic processes that can be affected by a multitude of different things.
